Roadmap for merging two supply chain departments

Ministry of Defence

Company description

The Danish Ministry of Defence (ministerial department) deals with a wide range of functions and assignments - from serving the Danish Minister of Defence to the overall management of our agencies.
The Department has two main functions:
We serve the minister of defence and establish the basis for the minister to create a visionary Danish policy in the field of defence, security and emergency management. The ministry’s functions are therefore of a distinctively political nature.

We head and supervise the combination of the Ministry of Defence. We ensure the execution of the policy of the minister of defence. We also supervise responsible planning of the economy and activities in the agencies within the politically stipulated framework.

To ensure optimal performance, the Department is organised into different units with each their areas of responsibility. The combination of civilian and military employees contributes to a generally positive dynamic, and boosts the opportunity for professional interaction.

Project description

After the audit at the Danish Ministry of Defence it was concluded that there is a room for optimisation and cost savings in Supply chain. As a result, the program “Optimized Supply Chain” responsible for optimisation was initiated.  The main objective of the program is to improve efficient supplies and inventory management in terms of precise demand forecasting and decision making.

It is essential for us that being a part of a larger organisation, the process of constantly improving and optimizing supply chain would be kept intact after the merge is completed. We thus would like you to have the plan for integration of Optimized Supply Chain program workforce into the new Supply Chain department.

We would like to proceed with the project in the following steps:
  • Overview our current processes (will be provided) within our program and supply chain department.
  • Determine needed profiles and processes in the workforce of the new supply chain organization to ensure continuous optimisation.
  • Create a road map (action plan) how the workforce of ‘optimized supply chain’ program should be implemented into the new Supply chain.
To help you answer these questions we will provide a mentor who will supply the necessary documentation to conduct analysis. Our expected outcome to the project is a managerial report proposing the action plan of how workforce should be implemented based on analysis of skill sets, profiles and operations.

Student description

Master Thesis students within Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Logistics, Organizational or Human Resource Management (HRM). The ideal candidate should have a profile combining both the Supply chain and HR or Reorganization Experience. Previous experience working in the public sector, preferably from Federal Defence, would also be an advantage. Danish language is a must.
